When people are broached with the subject of fertility, one often associates it is to an individual family’s desire to have children. However, as Professor Nargund expresses in her paper “Declining birth rate in Developed Countries: A radical re-think is required”, the subject touches society much more widely as a whole for both the developed and developing world than one might think.

TRACY’S STORY…

My Husband Andrew and I met in July 2005. Andrew told me he had fertility problem as a result of being a Cystic Fibrosis carrier. He was born with Congenital Absence of the Vas Deferens (no tubes from the testicles to the outside world). As a result our only way of having our own biological children, as we understood, would be for Andrew to have sperm surgically removed and for me to have IVF. As a precaution I underwent tests to make sure I was not a CF carrier, the tests showed I was not. Andrew in the meantime underwent PISA procedure to remove sperm directly from his testes and the consultant carrying out the procedure confirmed that it was viable for IVF ICSI procedures.

Claudia*, 35, already had a child after aggressive, conventional IVF, and wanted another. However, because she had blocked tubes, she needed IVF. She was exhausted after her
conventional IVF and said “never again”! It had been very aggressive IVF, had cost her nearly £9000 and she had lots of unpleasant side effects.

She had never even heard of Natural Cycle IVF before coming to us; so two ultrasound scans, one follicle, no drugs and £2,000 resulting in another baby made her very happy.

Abigail was a 36 year old when she came to us, she had severe endometriosis and she was not able to undergo ovarian stimulation because she suffered from extreme pelvic pain with ovulation and ovarian stimulation could make her endometriosis worse. Her husband’s sperm was normal. She had damaged tubes and needed IVF to help her get pregnant. However, she had not been offered IVF without drugs and was told that she should consider having donor eggs.

She found out about CREATE and came to London for Natural IVF. She conceived after her second cycle of Natural IVF using her own egg without any ovarian stimulation. She has a 5 year old daughter following her successful Natural IVF.

We are very excited about our 2011 success rates and here are the reasons why.

Most people use success rate statistics when making a decision about which IVF clinic to use, but these figures should not be taken in isolation. You should always talk to the clinic about your individual likelihood of success in relation to the clinic’s published results.

What is Natural Cycle IVF?

On January 27, 2012, in Definitions, Natural Cycle IVF, by Joanna Cardwell

Conventional IVF

Today’s conventional IVF is ‘stimulated’ – drugs are used to prompt the woman’s ovaries to produce several eggs, rather than just one. The eggs are mixed with her partner’s or a donor’s sperm to become fertilised.
